Day 9: Hike Around Northeast Ridge of the Matterhorn

Looking back toward Gandegghut and Trocknersteg, start of the day's hike.
The remnant snow lay late on the extensive ski slopes around the Matterhorn.
Over 5 or 6 hours approach from the southeast, the mountain got bigger and closer.

We and many hikers climbed up to the Hornlihut, visible just to right.  It is the starting point for the ascent.

Starting down the long shale slope on the northeast side of the Matterhorn and a long hot walk down to Zermatt.  Maria, below, guided us into town and the hostel.
